The attention of Mr. Commissioner Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs has been drawn to the brewing town union crisis in Oba, Idemili South LGA that may lead to breakdown of law and order.

It is important to give the true position of things so that the troublemakers will call themselves to order before it is too late.

From the records at the Ministry of Local Government Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, the tenure of the erstwhile President General of Oba Patriotic Union – Rev. Chris Emelie, expired on April 22nd, 2022 and a notification letter from the Ministry had since been issued on him to that effect.

Due to the complicity of the immediate past PG in the ongoing crisis in Oba community and his inability to unite the warring parties, the Ministry immediately established an interim government to be led by Sir. Osita Ubadi, to oversee the activities of Oba Patriotic Union and conduct elections into the executive positions of the union. The interim government is to run from 1st of April 2023 to 31st of December 2023.

Since then, Rev. Chris Emelie had refused to allow the new leadership operate in peace despite the fact that his tenure has expired.

On the premise of the above, the state government is issuing a final warning to Rev. Chris Emelie to call all his followers to order and desist from any act that can lead to the breakdown of law and order in Oba Community. He is also strongly warned to stop parading himself as the president general of Oba Patriotic Union and to stop any planned or purpoted town union election he is scheduling for April 11, 2023 or any other time because he doesn’t have such powers and authority to do so.

The state government will not tolerate any form of impersonation from any one and will apply all relevant laws to bring such persons to book.
