Gov. Willie Obiano yesterday Hosted the Anambra Contingent to the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival in his Aguleri Residence and Gifts the Medalists and their coaches who did the state state proud some substantial amount of money.
This Cash Gift was categorized according to the medal each of the participants got as Anambra came home with 38 medals which included, 6 Gold , 20 silver and 22 bronze Medals and attracted the sum of 16 million Naira as the Governor gave out 1 million Naira to Gold Medalists, 500 hundred thousand Naira to Sliver Medalist and 250 thousand Naira to Bronze Medalists.
The Coaches to these winners weren’t left out as they also got gift of 3.5 million Naira from the Governor with the best coach going home with 1 million Naira.
Anambra State Sensation at the tournament 10 year old Ms. Stephanie Onusiriuka went home with 2.250 million Naira for winning One Gold, Two Silver and One Bronze Medal, she also went further to entertain the crowd present with a two minutes top notch gymnastic performance.
The Governor in his remarks thanked the participants for doing the state proud and urged the athletes who didn’t win any medal to do better in the next tournament,he also said winners of silver and bronze Medals to put more effort to win gold medal in the next games and gold medalists should work hard to defend their medals, he went further to say that he is really proud of Ms. Stephanie Onusiriuka that she will definitely go places in the near future.
While Speaking the Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission Mr Tony Oli said that the athletes and the coaches did themselves proud by surpassing the states achievements at the previous sports Festival which held in Abuja in 2018, he also said that some of the athletes of the state have been invited to the camp for the upcoming Olympics.
