An inmate of the Awka Correctional Centre by Name Mr Jude Onwuzulike has bags two certificates from the National Open University, Awka Study Centre while doing his time in prison.
The Inmate bagged a Post Graduate Diploma and a Masters Degree in Information Technology.
The Certificates were presented to him by the registrar of the Awka Study Centre of The National Open University of Nigeria who was represented by the deputy registrar academics Mr Oladipo Ajayi, while speaking he said this program is fashioned in a way that people who have peculiar situation like being incarcerated can get access to education and become degree holders.
The Director of the Study Centre Asso. Prof. Scholastica Ezeribe confirmed the authenticity of the certificates stated that the graduated defended the certificates online under very strict supervision, she further said that he is being given the certificates here rather than in Abuja with his colleagues due to his peculiar situation.
The Comptroller of the Correctional Centre Mr Patrick Chukwuemeka who was represented by Superintendent Harry Okonkwo was full of praise for the program facilitators for their help to the graduate that made him achieve this great feat.
The further said that other inmates should borrow a leaf from this achievements and get themselves upgraded that the centre is not a confinement but an opportunity to change and make out something good out of their lives.
Mr Onwuzulike was full of appreciation for the chance he got to upgrade his level of academic qualification.
