Anambra State Government Lifts Ban on Town Union Elections

In a release signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Greg. Obi, dated December 1, 2021, and addressed to all the Traditional Rulers, Presidents General and others, government announced the lifting of ban on town union elections in the state.

The circular read in part, ” this is to inform all communities and the general public that the statewide ban on elections of igwes and town union leadership is hereby lifted effective immediately”.

Anambra State Government had in the build-up to the November 6 Anambra State Governorship election banned igweship and town union elections some months ago. With the release, communities with pending elections can now go ahead and conduct same in line with laid down rules.
