The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has issued a statement regarding the news making rounds that 9 of its female students were raped in the series of armed robbery attacks which have been going on lately in the off campus lodges in the Ifite Axis of the University regarding the news as false.
This was contained in an official statement issued by the university which was signed by Chike Ene who is the Acting Head of Information and Public Relations Unit of the University, the statement reads that the attention of the university has been drawn to the false information which was published by some national dailies and blogs that 9 of its students where raped, that this racks poor journalism and shouldn’t be given any form of attention as investigation shows that none of these happened even though there were series of robbery attacks in the off campus lodges in Ifite.
The University also stated that it has met with the state government and the police and has engaged the services of a private security outfit in other to support what the state government and the police can provide in order to provide maximum security for the students who live off campus.
The University has also advised the news outfits desist from publishing unfounded news as this can cause unwarranted panic in the society.
