The Politics of representation of the Awka North/South Federal Constituency in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly since the return of Democracy to the Country in 1999 has been dominated by Awka South Local Government as it has produced all members but one that have represented the constituency in the Federal House.
It is very paramount to know that the federal house of representatives has run for five consecutive session with just one representative of Awka North Extraction stepping his feet in the hallowed chambers, this representatives both past and present are as follows.
1. Samuel Chinedu Onwuaso Awka South, 2019 to date.
2. Anayo Nnebe, Awka South, 2015 to 2019.
3. Chukwuemeka Nwogbo, Awka South, 2011 to 2015.
4. Uchieze Emmanuel, Awka North, 2007 to 2011
5. Lawrence Egwuatu, Awka South 2005 to 2007
6. Chudi Offodile, Awka South 1999 to 2005.
The list above clearly show why the people of Awka North extraction are serious laying claim as to who occupies the seat come 2023 as they feel seriously marginalized as to how the representation has been since the return of democracy.
It has been heavily touted that the current transition committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Hon. Ferdinand Onwuje has started making serious political moves and consultation with keen interest on taking up this battle of bringing the seat to Awka North.
The people of Awka North feel that they will feel the presence of the federal government more if one of theirs occupies this position as lately no federal project has been attracted to this area of Anambra and they feel the time is now.
Will the pendulum of representation continue to swing in favor of Awka South or will the jinx be broken by the People of Awka North.
