Anambra State Fire Service Marks International Fire Fighters Day

The Anambra State Fire Service yesterday engaged in Activities to mark the International Fire Fighters Day, A road walk was part of activities marking this year’s International Fire Fighters’ Day which has its theme as “Developing Safer and Secure Working Conditions for Firefighters.

 

The walk was kicked off at the state fire service headquarters in Agu-Awka, through Government House Awka, Unizik junction, Akwata round about, and back to the base.

 

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Anambra state Fire Service, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi who commended Governor Willie Obiano led administration for its unrelenting support to the state fire service, said the agency will keep reciprocating the gesture through effective and efficient service delivery for the state.

 

On his part, the Director and Chief Fire Officer of the agency, Engineer Martin Agbili in his address stated that the Service is working towards a good synergy between them and the citizenry to enable them perform better at any given time their Services are need, He further said that this is the fourth time the Agency is marking this day.

The Chief Fire Officer Further talked about the support of the State Government in improving both the working condition and welfare of the officers by increasing the fire hazard allowance from N10 to N20000, he said that this a morale booster for the officers.

The fallen heros of the Service where also Observed, Mr Edeogu died in 2009 when he was shot at by armed robbers while he was driving to a fire incident scene while Mr Afujue Maxwell died in 2015 while fighting a fire incident in Ochanja Market in 2015, A moment of Silence was observed for the fallen heros before the Road Walk started.
