Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs Come to the Aid of Elderly Woman Abandoned by Family

The news of an Elderly Woman who was thrown out by her brother has gotten the Anambra State Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs who as a matter of urgency has taken up this matter.

Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue on Thursday, 1st July, 2021 stepped took up the case of a childless septuagenarian who was ejected from family house by her brother Mr John Obi.

 

The divorced 70 – year – old  from Umuomaku Orumba South LGA, was made to be sleeping outside the family gate for over a year, before her pitiable condition was reported to National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) who swung into action and rescued the frail looking women on 22nd  June, 202

 

Following her rescue and admission at Regina Celi Hospital Awka, the agency’  Anambra State’s commandant, Ibadin, Judith Chukwu immediately contacted the Anambra State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, through a letter alerting her of the case.

 

Lady Mezue, followed it up by getting in touch with the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North, Hon Ify Obinabo, who accompanied  her to the hospital where the woman who breaths through the aid of oxygen is recovering

 

The Honorable Commissioner donated beverages and toiletries and promised to follow the case up to satisfactory conclusion, she also assured of partnering with her counterpart in the ministry of health. In the same vein, she appreciated the NAPTIP director for coming to the aid of the woman

 

Reacting, Hon Obinabo promised to source for a care giver and also provide shelter for the woman as soon as she is discharged from the hospital, she also assured of getting the TC Chairman of Orumba South where the elderly woman is from involved in the matter.
