Rotary: District Governor Visits Awka Hybrid, other Clubs in Anambra State

With strong believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issue, Rotarians in over 35,000 Clubs work together to: Promote peace; Fight disease; Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene; Save mothers and children; Support education; and Grow local economies.

 

The District-Governor of Rotary International District 9142, Rtn Okey Okonkwo is presently in Anambra in an official tour of Rotary Clubs in the State.

As part of his itinerary, the District-Governor was on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 welcomed by Rotarians in Awka Axis at Stanel World ultramodern facility in Awka before Club Assemblies and separate Sessions with different Clubs as well as other special activities as announced by the Assistant Governor of Zone 12, Rtn Chibueze Adirika, including courtesy calls, radio appearance and a condolence visit to Past Assistant Governor, Rtn Amaobi Adirika who lost his dear wife.

 

This visit to Anambra State provides the the District-Governor the opportunity to establish a one-on-one relationship with Rotarians to further instill the mission of Rotary in them which is to “provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.”

In his first Club Assembly help at Crescent Spring Hotel, the District-Governor, Rtn Okey Okonkwo had Joint Fellowship with Rotary Clubs in Zone 12 of the District, in which they committed to “together, see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves” that being the vision of Rotary International; before holding separate Sessions with the different Clubs.

At each session with the individual clubs, they discussed 15 critical issues as contained in the Checklist for the DG’s Visit viz a vis: Club’s Status; Stewardship Plans for Accountability and Transparency; Schedule of Board Meetings and regular Fellowships; Club Projects List with Budget and Timeline for Completion & Report of ongoing Projects; Club Strategic Plan, Plans and Set Goals on Membership Growth, PHFs, Paul Harris Society, Major Donors and PolioPlus; New Generation Plan – Formation of Rotaract/Interact; amongst others.

 

The District-Governor used the opportunity to charge every Rotarian not to relent on the task of inviting new quality members into the Rotary family while emphasizing on the importance of Rotary Clubs to the overall success story of Rotary International.

 

“The success of Rotary International rests on the success of Rotary Clubs around the world and the achievements of our District rest on the achievements of our Club Presidents… Thus, my team and I will always be there to provide any needed support to enable all Presidents and their Clubs achieve beyond their targets” – Rtn Okey Okonkwo

 

He equally commended the Rotary Club of Awka Hybrid for their unique model which allows members to virtually participate in Rotary programs while specially thanking the Club Advisor, Past Assistant Governor Emmanuel Nnagbo, Rtn Chijioke Aniagor, Rtn Caleb Okechukwu who were physically present and all members that joined via the e-platform for attending.

 

On his part, the Charter President of Rotary Club of Awka Hybrid, Rtn Ifeanyi ANIAGOH who called the Club Assembly to Order as the Sitting President, in welcoming the District-Governor, assured him of readiness of his Club Members to always live the Spirit of Rotary.

 

On behalf of Rotary Clubs in Zone 12; Awka Central, Awka Hybrid, Awka Metropolis, Igbariam Gateway, and Oko (Provisional), Assistant Governor, Rtn Chibueze Adirika thanked the District-Governor for his historic visit and promised to diligently follow up all developments arising from the DG’s visit for a more fruitful Rotary Year.

 

The District-Governor would go on to meet with Clubs in Zone 10 on Wednesday, September 22, 2021; and Clubs in Zone 11 on Thursday, September 23, 2021 before his scheduled departure on Friday, September 24, 2021 through Onitsha enroute Aguleri.
